A 1000mm wide towel rail occupies 1000mm of wall width; allow roughly 1100mm of clear space to account for valve clearance on each side. The four adjustable wall brackets sit approximately 870mm apart — the vertical side bars extend beyond the brackets to reach the full 1000mm, with the bracket centres sitting about 65mm in from each outer edge.
The 1000mm width fits family bathrooms, utility rooms, and en-suites with a longer free wall where more than one towel needs to hang flat.
Heat output by height
All figures are from BS EN 442 testing. ΔT50 is the standard test condition. ΔT30 reflects a condensing boiler running at lower flow temperatures, which is typical of most modern systems.

The 400mm model at 88W ΔT30 is a towel warmer — best where another radiator handles room heating. From 600mm upward the output is sufficient as the primary heat source in most standard bathrooms. Use the BTU calculator to size precisely for your room.
Pipe centres, projection, and valve choice
Every rail in this collection has 950mm pipe centres — width minus 50mm. The four adjustable chrome wall brackets supplied allow a wall projection of 90–110mm. With valves fitted, allow an additional 15mm for the valve body.
- Straight valves — pipes exit the floor directly below the rail
- Angled valves — pipes exit the wall; the most common configuration
- Corner valves — pipes exit the wall and turn to run parallel with it; used where angled valves would protrude into a tiled run

Dual-fuel and electric-only compatibility
All seven rails accept a heating element for dual-fuel or electric-only use — elements are sold separately in the electric towel rail elements collection.
For dual-fuel: fit a T-piece at one valve connection so the rail runs on central heating or the element independently. For electric-only: fit the element, fill with distilled water and corrosion inhibitor, and seal the unused connection. The element requires a fused spur connection. IP rating depends on element type: non-thermostatic elements are IPX6; thermostatic elements are IPX4.

Frequently asked questions
- What are the pipe centres on a 1000mm wide towel rail?
- All seven rails in this collection have 950mm pipe centres — centre-to-centre between inlet and outlet. If your existing wall or floor pipes sit at 950mm, you can replace a current rail directly without rerouting.
- Will a 1000mm wide rail heat my bathroom on its own?
- It depends on the height. The 400mm model at 88W ΔT30 is a towel warmer suited to bathrooms with separate room heating. From 600mm (162W ΔT30) upward, output is sufficient as the primary heat source for most standard bathrooms. Use the BTU calculator with your room dimensions to confirm.
- Can I convert these rails to electric-only?
- Yes. Every rail accepts a 1″ electric heating element (sold separately). Fit the element, drain, fill with distilled water and corrosion inhibitor, and cap the unused connection. The element must be wired to a fused spur. See our FAQ page for zone requirements by bathroom area.
- Do these come with valves?
- Valves are an optional add-on at checkout — straight, angled, or corner. You can also order without valves if reusing existing connections. No TRV heads on towel rails; manual valves only.
- What is the projection from the wall?
- The adjustable brackets give 90–110mm from the finished wall surface. With valves fitted, allow an additional 15mm for the valve body.
- What comes in the box?
- Each rail includes four adjustable chrome wall brackets, screws, rawl plugs, washers, a blanking plug, and a bleed plug. Valves are packaged separately if ordered with the rail.
