When only the absolute maximum drying capacity will do, our 850mm wide electric towel rails provide an unrivalled, commercial-level luxury for your home. At a commanding 85cm across, these ultra-wide standalone radiators are designed for sprawling master bathrooms, boutique-style wet rooms, and large families who need to dry multiple heavy bath sheets side-by-side without any overlap. Functioning entirely on your mains electricity, these massive heating hubs ensure your towels are constantly fresh, warm, and ready to use, long after the summer sun has prompted you to switch off your central heating boiler.
Massive Heat Output & Specifications
Because of their immense physical surface area, our 850mm models operate as heavy-duty heat emitters. They arrive factory-sealed and pre-loaded with a specialist thermodynamic fluid to prevent internal corrosion. To ensure you harness the right amount of warmth for your room's square footage, refer to the table below for the bar layouts and estimated BTU outputs across standard Delta T (ΔT) ratings.

Architectural Finishes
An 85cm wide radiator is a monumental feature that will naturally draw the eye. We offer premium, hard-wearing finishes to ensure it elevates your bathroom's aesthetic:
- Crisp White: A classic, high-efficiency finish that visually merges with large expanses of light tiling, preventing this massive unit from overpowering the room.
- Brilliant Chrome: The pinnacle of reflective luxury, bouncing light around the room and tying together your modern taps and oversized shower hardware.
- Matte Anthracite & Black: Bold, heat-absorbent finishes that radiate warmth aggressively while providing a stunning, contemporary anchor for industrial or monochrome designs.
Controlling Your Energy Costs
With heat outputs cresting over 4000 BTUs on our tallest models, selecting the right electrical control is paramount for efficiency:
- Standard & LST Elements: Select a robust single-heat element, or choose a Low Surface Temperature (LST) variant to safely limit the exterior heat of such a large metal surface.
- Thermostatic Elements: Gain manual authority over your energy consumption by physically dialing the radiator's surface temperature up or down.
- WiFi Smart Elements: The ultimate upgrade for large-capacity rails. Use your smartphone to program exact heating windows, ensuring this massive unit only draws power when it is genuinely needed.
- Wall Timers & Boosters: Highly advised for standard elements. Hardwiring into a fused spur booster timer allows you to trigger 1-to-5-hour drying cycles, automatically shutting the rail off to save electricity.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much actual space do I have to hang towels on an 850mm rail?
The full external width is 850mm. By deducting the 80mm required for the two vertical side tubes, you unlock an incredible 770mm of internal horizontal hanging space. This is vast enough to hang two exceptionally large bath sheets side-by-side without them bunching up or overlapping.
How much clearance is needed on the wall for this massive rail?
Because this is one of the widest models on the market, you must ensure you have plenty of flat wall space for a clean installation. To account for the mounting brackets and leave enough room on either side to freely slide towels onto the bars, we strongly recommend a minimum clear wall area of 950mm.
Can an 850mm towel rail act as the only heater in my bathroom?
Absolutely. Because of its immense physical size, an 850mm wide rail—particularly in taller heights like 1200mm to 1800mm—generates a huge BTU output. It is more than capable of serving as the primary heat source to warm up a large bathroom, while still functioning as a dedicated towel dryer.
Does it matter which side the heating element is plugged into?
The design is fully reversible, meaning the heating element can be screwed into either the left or the right-hand vertical tube to seamlessly connect with your existing electrical wiring. However, you must install the element at the bottom of the unit. Fitting an element at the top bypasses the built-in thermal safety cut-offs and is strictly forbidden.
Will this radiator ever need to be topped up with water or bled?
No. This electric towel rail arrives completely sealed from the factory, pre-filled with a specialized, rust-preventative thermal liquid. Because it is a 100% standalone appliance and not plumbed into your home's central heating pipes, it will never require bleeding, flushing, or refilling.
