250mm Wide Electric Towel Rails

Modern UK homes are notoriously compact, meaning standard bathroom radiators simply won't fit into many small en-suites, downstairs cloakrooms, or utility areas. Our 250mm wide electric towel rails are a slimline solution engineered for these restricted spaces. Measuring just 25cm across, they offer slightly more horizontal hanging room than our ultra-narrow 200mm models while still slotting perfectly into tight gaps and alcoves. Because they are 100% electrically powered, they provide dedicated towel warming without you ever having to switch on your main central heating.

Specifications and Heat Output

Our electric-only towel radiators are delivered pre-filled with a specialised thermal fluid. To help you match the right rail to your room's requirements, the table below details the physical bar layout and the estimated heat output in BTUs across standard Delta T ratings.

Height (mm) Bar Layout Total Bars ΔT30 (Heat Pump) ΔT50 (EN442) ΔT60 (Traditional) Price*
600mm 3 + 4 + 4 11 ~325 BTU 625 BTU ~785 BTU £85.95 – £92.95
800mm 3 + 4 + 8 15 ~397 BTU 762 BTU ~958 BTU £94.95 – £96.95

Available Finishes

To maximise the feeling of space in a small room, our 250mm collection is available in two brightening finishes:

  • Brilliant Chrome — a classic, reflective surface that mirrors your existing bathroom fittings and helps bounce light around small spaces. See our chrome electric towel rails.
  • Crisp White — a clean, neutral finish that practically vanishes against pale bathroom tiles while delivering excellent heat radiation. Browse white electric towel rails.

For darker aesthetics like Anthracite or Black, view our 300mm wide electric towel rails.

Select Your Heating Element

Ensure your 250mm rail operates exactly how you want it to by choosing the right electrical setup:

  • Standard and LST Elements — choose a standard single-heat element for basic on/off operation, or opt for a Low Surface Temperature (LST) element to restrict the maximum heat output for safety in family environments.
  • Thermostatic Elements — gain manual control over the radiator's temperature to optimise energy use and prevent your bathroom from overheating.
  • WiFi Smart Elements — the ultimate in convenience. Link the rail to your smartphone with our WiFi thermostatic heating element to set bespoke drying routines, so your towels are warm right when you step out of the shower.

Essential Installation Accessories

As an electrical fixture intended for wet environments, hardwiring is a strict requirement.

  • Fused Spurs — a mandatory safety connection point for wiring your element securely into the mains power.
  • Wall Timers and Boosters — when using a standard element, we recommend wiring it into one of our booster timers. Heat cycles run in stepped intervals (1 to 5 hours), so your rail powers down automatically once towels are dry.

250mm Wide Electric Towel Rail FAQs

How much actual hanging space is there on a 250mm towel rail?

While the total external width measures 250mm, the upright vertical tubes take up roughly 80mm of that space. This leaves you with an internal horizontal bar width of exactly 170mm. This slimline profile is intentionally designed as a niche solution for highly restricted gaps in small UK homes.

What is the best way to dry towels on a 170mm internal gap?

You can easily dry standard towels by folding them lengthwise before threading them through the 170mm gap. However, many of our customers prefer to drape large bath sheets over the very top of the rail. To make drying even easier on these narrow models, we suggest attaching our Chrome Towel Rail Pegs. These let you simply hook your robes or heavy towels onto the front of the bars.

What size gap on my wall do I need to mount this?

The physical width of the towel rail is exactly 250mm. However, to ensure you have enough room for the radiator itself and space to comfortably slide your towels on and off, you should ideally allow a total flat wall space of around 350mm.

What are the IP ratings for your electric towel rails?

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating depends entirely on the type of heating element you choose to install with your towel rail. Our standard (single heat) elements feature a high IPX6 rating, offering strong protection against water ingress. If you choose our thermostatic or WiFi-controlled elements, these models carry an IPX4 rating.

Do I need a plumber to install this?

No plumbing is required at all, as these are standalone, sealed electric units. However, because it is an electrical appliance, the final connection — hardwiring the unit into a fused spur — must be completed by a qualified Part P electrician in accordance with UK safety regulations.

Can the heating element be installed on either side of the towel rail?

Yes, the electrical heating element can be fitted to either the left or the right-hand side of the radiator to best suit your bathroom's existing wiring. However, the element must always be installed at the bottom of the towel rail. Installing the element at the top bypasses the built-in overheat protection and is strictly prohibited for safety reasons.
