Frequently Asked Questions
How much actual hanging space is there on a 450mm towel rail?
The external width measures 450mm. Subtracting the 80mm footprint of the two vertical upright bars leaves you with an excellent internal horizontal hanging space of 370mm. This allows thick bath towels to be threaded through with ease. Wall tighter than 550mm? The 400mm model needs only 500mm of clearance. Need more room? The 500mm is our most popular family bathroom size.
What size gap on my wall do I need to mount this?
To ensure a clean installation with enough flat wall space for the mounting brackets and comfortable clearance to slide your towels on and off, we recommend allowing an overall wall gap of around 550mm.
Can the heating element be installed on either side of the towel rail?
Yes, the electrical heating element is fully reversible and can be fitted into either the left or the right-hand side. However, the element must always be installed at the bottom of the towel rail. Installing it at the top bypasses the built-in overheat protection and is extremely dangerous.
Do I need to fill or bleed this electric towel rail?
No. Our electric towel rails arrive fully sealed and pre-filled with a specialized thermodynamic fluid designed to prevent internal rust. Because they are standalone units and completely separated from your central heating system, they will never need to be bled, flushed, or topped up.
Can I use this towel rail when my central heating is off in the summer?
Absolutely. This is the main advantage of an electric-only towel rail. Because it operates entirely independently of your main boiler, you can enjoy warm, dry towels during the hot summer months without having to switch on the heating for your entire house.
Are electric towel rails expensive to run?
To minimize running costs, you should avoid leaving a standard element switched on 24/7. We highly recommend wiring your standard element into a wall-mounted booster timer, allowing you to run the rail for a set 1-to-5 hour drying cycle. Alternatively, choosing a thermostatic or WiFi element allows you to strictly control the energy output and set customized schedules.
