Most electric towel rails are a ladder rail with a plug-in element bolted on. The Reina Vispa was engineered as an electric-first product from day one. Its unique “snake” layout — five square-tube bars zigzagging across alternating depth planes — means towels contact the rail across a wider surface area than any flat-ladder rail in the same footprint. Will the Reina Vispa heat my bathroom, or does it just warm towels?
A. Primarily a towel warmer. At 95W, the Vispa will keep towels warm and dry and add gentle ambient warmth in a small cloakroom or ensuite. It is not designed as the sole heat source for a full-size bathroom — for that you need a larger radiator. Think of it as a luxury towel-drying appliance that also takes the chill off the room.

Is it plug-in or does it need a qualified electrician?
A. Hardwired only — the Vispa is not a plug-in rail. A qualified electrician must connect it to a dedicated fused spur. In England and Wales, a new bathroom circuit falls under Part P of Building Regulations and must be completed or certified by a registered competent person. No plumber is required — just an electrician.

How does the built-in timer work — is it a weekly programmer?
A. It is a countdown timer, not a weekly scheduler. You press the timer button to select 1, 2, 3… up to 8 hours; the rail switches off automatically when that period ends. Press once more after 8 hours to select continuous “always on” mode. If you want the rail to start at a fixed time each morning, an electrician can fit a separate compliant timer switch on the fused spur circuit.

What temperature range does the thermostat cover?
A. 30°C to 60°C, adjustable in 5°C steps. When the rail reaches your chosen temperature, the element pauses automatically and restarts as it cools — so the rail holds a steady warmth rather than cycling between fully on and stone cold. For most households, 40–50°C is comfortable for towel drying.

How much does it cost to run per month?
A. At full power (95W) and 25p/kWh, the Vispa uses roughly 2.4p per hour. Four hours a day costs around £2.88 per month at maximum draw. The thermostat cycles the element off at your set temperature, so real-world usage is typically 30–50% lower than the theoretical maximum. What is the difference between dry electric and a pre-filled electric rail?
A. A pre-filled rail contains a water and glycol mixture — the element heats the liquid, which then heats the rail body. A dry electric rail like the Vispa has no water inside at all: the element heats the stainless-steel body directly. The result is faster heat-up (no water mass to warm through), zero corrosion risk, no limescale, and no need to ever bleed the rail.

Can it run in summer without turning on the central heating?
A. Yes — that is the defining advantage of a dry electric rail. The Vispa runs entirely independently of your boiler, 365 days a year. No seasonal shutdown, no waiting for the heating to come on, no minimum system pressure to maintain. Switch it on whenever you want warm towels, regardless of the season.

Is the Vispa genuinely stainless steel — will it rust in a humid bathroom?
A. Yes, the body is solid stainless steel — not chrome-plated mild steel. Stainless steel is inherently corrosion-resistant in bathroom humidity. The coloured finishes (Matt Black, Gun Metal, Brushed Brass) are applied coatings over stainless, not paint. Clean with a soft damp cloth only — avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemical cleaners, which can scratch or dull the surface over time.

Will the cable be visible after installation?
A. Not with the concealed wiring method — both concealed and surface-mount wiring kits are included in the box. Using the concealed option, the cable threads into the wall through the mounting bracket and four square decorative caps hide all fixings. The finished result is a clean, floating rail with no visible hardware or cable.

What warranty does the Reina Vispa carry?
A. 2 years from the date of purchase — direct from Reina Design as manufacturer. You may see other retailers advertising different warranty periods; the current manufacturer specification is 2 years.
