600mm Wide Anthracite Towel Rails | 550mm Pipe Centres
14 years supplying UK bathrooms, est. February 2012. Free delivery on orders over £200. 5-year manufacturer's warranty on all towel rails.
At 600mm wide with 550mm pipe centres, these anthracite towel rails suit main bathrooms and larger en-suites — wide enough to hang two full-size bath towels side by side, available in seven heights from 600mm to 1800mm. Each rail is finished in a hard-wearing anthracite powder coat, oven-cured for bathroom conditions, that resists limescale and fingerprints and works equally well beside grey tiles, timber furniture, or matt-black fittings. Central heating, pre-filled electric, and dual fuel versions are all stocked.

About the Anthracite Finish
The anthracite RAL 7016 powder-coat finish is electrostatically applied and oven-cured at over 180°C, producing a hard, sealed surface that resists moisture, chips, and household cleaning products. Unlike wet-spray lacquers, a powder-coat finish will not yellow, peel, or blister in a bathroom environment. It pairs equally well with modern grey-toned tiles, matte black fittings, and white sanitaryware — a versatile neutral that suits both contemporary and transitional bathroom styles. Our 5-year finish warranty covers manufacturing defects; corrosion caused by installation errors or chemical damage is excluded, so always use PTFE tape and plumber’s jointing compound on all connections.
Central Heating, Electric, or Dual Fuel?
Central heating: The CH version connects to your existing hot-water system via two 1/2" BSP valves (15mm compression, angled or straight). It runs whenever your boiler fires, at no additional running cost beyond your existing heating bill. Choose this if your bathroom already has radiator pipework in the floor or wall.
Pre-filled electric: The electric version is factory-sealed and filled with corrosion-inhibited fluid. A qualified electrician connects it to a dedicated fused spur and installs the heating element into the bottom inlet. No plumbing is required — ideal for loft conversions, extensions, or bathrooms being refitted without disturbing existing pipework. At 24.67p/kWh, a 400 W element costs approximately 10p per hour to run.
Dual fuel: The dual-fuel version ships with a T-piece fitting so the rail can be plumbed into your central heating AND wired to an electric element. Use the central heating circuit in winter; switch to electric in summer without draining the system. Both heat sources use the same towel rail body.
Frequently Asked Questions
What pipe centres do 600mm wide anthracite towel rails use?
The pipe centres are 550mm — that is the overall width (600mm) minus 50mm. Mark out 550mm horizontally between the centres of your two copper pipes (flow and return). The pipes should protrude roughly 75–95mm from the finished wall face to accept standard angled valves without straining the connections.
How much heat does a 600mm wide anthracite towel rail produce?
Heat output depends on height. At the standard ΔT50 rating (combi boiler), these 600mm-wide rails range from 815 BTU / 239 W for the 600mm-high model to 2,337 BTU / 685 W for the 1800mm-high model. See the full heat output table on this page for ΔT50, ΔT60, and ΔT30 (heat pump) values across all seven heights.
Which height should I choose for a 600mm wide towel rail?
For a compact en-suite (3–5 m²), the 800mm or 1000mm height is usually sufficient. A typical family bathroom (6–9 m²) suits the 1200mm or 1400mm height. If the rail is the primary heat source in a larger room, or you simply need more towel bars, the 1600mm or 1800mm height provides both capacity and output. Measure from the top of the bottom pipe to the top of your usable wall space and deduct 100mm clearance at each end.
Can I get a 600mm anthracite towel rail in dual fuel?
Yes. The dual fuel version is available in all seven heights on this collection page. It ships with a T-piece fitting that lets you connect the rail to your central heating AND fit an electric element for summer use. When the boiler is off, switch the element on via a fused spur — no need to drain down or disconnect the CH pipework. A Gas Safe registered engineer or qualified electrician must carry out the installation.
What valves do I need for a 600mm anthracite towel rail?
These rails have standard 1/2" BSP inlet connections, compatible with 15mm compression valves. Angled valves are the standard choice where pipes emerge from the wall or floor. Straight valves suit exposed floor pipe runs. Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) can be used if you want individual room-temperature control. A qualified plumber or heating engineer must fit all valves.
Is the anthracite finish guaranteed?
Yes. The anthracite powder-coat finish carries a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects such as bubbling, peeling, or delamination under normal bathroom use. The towel rail body carries a separate 5-year structural warranty. Warranties do not cover damage caused by improper installation, abrasive or chemical cleaners, physical impact, or failure to use corrosion inhibitor in the central heating system.
