Why Mild Steel for a Towel Rail?
Three practical reasons a steel ladder rail suits a modern central heating system.
Robust buildHard-wearing ✔
Thick-wall 25mm steel tubes with a durable factory finish. A ladder rail takes knocks and keeps its looks in busy bathrooms and kitchens.
Holds its heatWarm towels ✔
Steel retains heat after the boiler switches off, so towels stay warm and the room temperature stays steady between cycles.
Ladder profileSpace-saving
11 to 31 vertical bars depending on size, across a compact footprint - plenty of heated hanging space without taking the room over.

Heat Output by Size & System
Calculated to EN 442. ΔT60 = high-temp boilers (80°C flow). ΔT50 = standard gas boiler (75/65°C). ΔT30 = heat pump (50/40°C). Figures are for the anthracite finish.

Heat pump owners: use the ΔT30 column. Steel warms up more slowly than aluminium, so allow a little longer to reach temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q.
Is the Reina Diva Flat compatible with a heat pump?
A. It is rated at Delta T30, so it will work on a heat pump system - use the Delta T30 column in our heat output table for accurate figures. Steel warms up more slowly than aluminium, so on a low-flow-temperature system it takes a little longer to reach temperature.
Q.
What valves do I need for the Diva Flat?
A. The Diva Flat takes standard 1/2 inch BSP valves. We recommend thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) for individual room control - one TRV and one lockshield valve is the usual pairing for a towel rail.
Q.
What are the pipe centres on the Diva Flat?
A. Pipe centres are 40mm less than the rail width on this model - 360mm on the 400mm wide, 460mm on the 500mm wide, 560mm on the 600mm wide. Wall to pipe centres is 70-85mm and the wall distance is 85-100mm depending on how the brackets are set.
Q.
Which size Diva Flat do I need?
A. Use the room fit calculator on this page. Enter your room dimensions and heating system type and it will show whether the rail meets your heat loss. As a guide, allow around 100 BTU per cubic metre for a modern well-insulated UK room - and remember a towel rail is there to dry towels as well as heat the room.
Q.
What finishes is the Diva Flat available in?
A. White, Anthracite, Black and Chrome. The Chrome rail is available as both a flat/straight and a curved version, selected on the Chrome product page.
Q.
Can the Diva Flat be used as an electric or dual fuel towel rail?
A. Yes on every size up to 1600mm high - the datasheet lists central heating, electric and dual fuel for those. The five 1800mm-high sizes are marked central heating only on the datasheet. Contact our team and we will confirm the right element for your size.
Q.
What is the difference between the Diva flat and the Diva curved?
A. Flat rails have straight 25mm horizontal tubes running across the front. The curved version uses the same 25mm tubes but bows them outwards, which gives a little more space for towels. Both use the same brackets and the same pipe centres.
Q.
Why choose a mild steel towel rail?
A. Steel is robust, takes a hard-wearing finish and holds its heat after the boiler switches off, so towels stay warm between cycles. A ladder profile puts a lot of heated surface into a small footprint.
