At 50W it is one of the most economical electric rails in the Reina range — running costs under £2 a month at typical usage. Does it need an electrician or can I plug it in?
A. Hardwired only. A qualified electrician must connect it to a dedicated fused spur. In England and Wales, a new bathroom electrical circuit is notifiable under Part P of Building Regulations and must be certified by a registered competent person. No plumber required.
Q.
It is mild steel — will it rust in a humid bathroom?
A. The Orne is mild steel with a protective polished finish. Keep the finish intact — avoid abrasive pads, bleach, or acidic cleaners. It is a dry electric rail with no water inside, so there is no internal corrosion risk. With normal care in a well-ventilated bathroom the finish will remain in good condition throughout the product's life.

Is 50W enough for a bathroom?
A. For towel warming, yes. The Orne is designed as a towel warmer rather than a primary heat source. It will keep towels warm and dry at a very low running cost. For primary bathroom heating in a room with no other heat source, we recommend a higher-output rail from the Reina range.

What does IP24 mean — where can I install it?
A. IP24 provides protection against water splashed from any direction — equivalent water protection to IPX4. It is suitable for Zone 2 (60cm or more from the edge of a bath or shower). Not suitable for Zone 0 or Zone 1. The fused spur must be outside the bathroom. Your electrician will confirm zone suitability during installation.

Can it run in summer with the central heating off?
A. Yes — entirely independent of your boiler. No water connection, no system pressure, no seasonal shutdown. Switch it on any day of the year for warm towels regardless of whether the heating is running.

What is dry electric — how is it different from a pre-filled rail?
A. A pre-filled rail contains water and glycol heated by an element. A dry electric rail like the Orne has no water inside — the element heats the metal body directly. Faster heat-up, no internal limescale, no bleeding required.

How much does it cost to run?
A. At 25p/kWh: 1.25p per hour. Running 4 hours a day that is 5p per day — roughly £1.50 per month. At 8 hours a day, approximately £3.00 per month. The Orne is one of the lowest-cost electric towel rails in the Reina range.
