How Dual Fuel Connects

Two ways to plumb your dual fuel radiator. Both work — the choice depends on your pipework and the finish you want.
Angled valve with T-piece adapter for dual fuel towel rail
T-Piece + Angled Valves Floor & wall pipes
The most common setup. A T-piece adaptor screws into the bottom of the rail, then your angled valves connect to the T-piece. Works with both floor and wall pipework. The element fits into the opposite side of the T-piece.
  • Fits floor OR wall pipes
  • Pipe centres extend by 70–75mm (now 220–225mm for this rail)
  • Standard ½" BSP thread throughout
  • Element fits opposite side of T-piece
Corner tee integrated dual fuel valve for towel rail
Corner Tee Dual Fuel Valves Wall pipes only · Neater
All-in-one solution. The valve, T-piece, and corner fitting are integrated into a single unit — no separate adaptor needed. Wall pipes only, but the result is cleaner with no visible T-piece. Element fits into the bottom of the integrated valve.
  • Wall pipes only
  • Pipe centres stay exact (150mm for this rail)
  • Clean, minimal look — no visible T-piece
  • Element fits into integrated valve bottom
Dual fuel installation requires a qualified plumber for the pipework AND a qualified electrician for the element wiring (Part P, UK building regulations). The element must be connected to a fused spur.

Choosing Your Valve Type

Three valve types — which one you need depends on where your pipes come out.
White straight valve
Straight inline Floor pipes
Choose this when pipework comes straight up out of the floor directly below the rail inlets.
White angled valve
Angled Wall pipes
For pipes that exit horizontally from the wall. The valve turns 90° upward into the rail.
White corner valve
Corner Wall pipes
A tighter alternative for wall pipes — sits flush to the wall for a cleaner, lower-profile finish.
TRV valves are not suitable for towel rails — fitting one could leave your towels damp and smelling. Find out why ↗

Add a Timer (optional)

A timer controls when the rail runs. It works with any element above and can be added now or later.
Warm towels waiting for you — automatically

Electric towel rails take up to 30 minutes to reach full heat. A timer switches yours on before you need it, so warm, dry towels are ready the moment you walk into the bathroom — every morning, without touching a switch.

No Timer
  • No scheduled heating — towels stay cold until you remember to switch on
  • Wastes energy — runs when you don't need it, off when you do
  • Manual only — forget once and it runs all day

What It Costs to Run

A rough guide for the Single Heat element at full power. A thermostatic or timer element costs less, because it only draws power until it reaches temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does dual fuel work?

Dual fuel gives you the best of both worlds. In winter, the radiator runs from your central heating system like a normal heated towel rail. In summer, you switch to the built-in electric element for warm towels without turning on your entire boiler. A T-piece adaptor allows both the central heating water and the electric element to connect to the same rail — they never run at the same time.

Is the heating element already fitted?

No. Your chosen element ships separately in the box and must be fitted by a qualified electrician. The element screws into the T-piece adaptor (standard ½" BSP thread) and is wired to a fused spur connection. Full instructions are included.

Do I need a T-piece or corner tee valves?

You need one or the other — not both. A T-piece adaptor with angled valves works for both floor and wall pipes but extends pipe centres by 70–75mm. Corner tee dual fuel valves are all-in-one units that keep the pipe centres exactly the same but only work with wall pipes. Both options connect the central heating pipework and the electric element to the same rail.

Can I run central heating and electric at the same time?

No — and you would never need to. Dual fuel means you choose one heat source at a time. In winter, your central heating system keeps the rail hot alongside the rest of your home. In warmer months, the electric element heats the rail independently. The system is designed so only one heat source is active at any time.

What valves do I need for the central heating side?

The central heating side uses standard ½" BSP radiator valves — either straight (for floor pipes), angled (for wall pipes), or corner (for a neater wall-pipe finish). Valves are not included with the rail and must be purchased separately. We stock matching white valves on our website.

What is the warranty on dual fuel radiators?

Your towel rail is covered by a 5-year manufacturer warranty. The heating element is covered for 1 year. This covers manufacturing defects and premature corrosion under normal domestic use. Labour costs are not included.
