300mm Wide Anthracite Towel Rails — The Compact Ladder Rail

At 300mm wide with 250mm pipe centres, this is our narrowest flat anthracite ladder rail — the go-to choice for a cloakroom or tight en-suite where every millimetre matters. Triple-layer anthracite powder coat on mild steel tube gives a hard-wearing dark-grey finish that suits any grout or tile colour. Available in seven heights from 600mm to 1800mm in central heating, pre-filled electric and dual fuel configurations, all carrying a 5-year warranty.

Pipe Centres & Wall Space

Pipe centres: 250mm · Wall clearance: ~400mm minimum

All 300mm wide ladder towel rails have 250mm pipe centres — the horizontal distance between the centre of the left-hand inlet and the centre of the right-hand inlet. Your supply pipes must emerge from the wall 250mm apart. Allow at least 400mm of clear wall width for the rail and brackets. Projection from the wall face to the front tube is typically 90–110mm, depending on bracket adjustment.

Heat Output — All Heights (BS EN 442)

ΔT50 is the EN 442 standard reference point used for UK combi boiler specs. ΔT60 reflects older high-temperature systems. ΔT30 is the guide figure for heat pump installations.

Height ΔT50 (BTU) ΔT60 (BTU) ΔT30 (BTU)
600mm 519 658 267
800mm 696 882 358
1000mm 880 1,115 453
1200mm 1,061 1,345 546
1400mm 1,191 1,509 613
1600mm 1,317 1,669 678
1800mm 1,497 1,897 771

Anthracite Powder Coat Finish

Anthracite is applied as a triple-layer powder coat in a dedicated paint line, then cured at high temperature for a hard, even surface that outperforms wet-painted finishes for scratch and peel resistance. Matching anthracite bleed plug and blanking plug cover caps are included in the box. A complementary pair of anthracite cover caps is also available to finish the exposed plug heads neatly.

Central Heating, Electric or Dual Fuel?

All three fuel types use the identical 300mm wide flat-tube body with a 5-year warranty:

  • Central heating — connected to your boiler via 15mm compression angled valves. Heats whenever your central heating runs.
  • Electric pre-filled — factory-sealed and glycol-filled; no pipework needed. A qualified electrician fits the element and makes the mains connection. Ideal where there is no existing plumbing.
  • Dual fuel — runs from the boiler in winter; the built-in element keeps towels warm in summer without firing the boiler.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the pipe centres on a 300mm wide anthracite towel rail?

The pipe centres are 250mm. For ladder-type towel rails, pipe centres are always the overall width minus 50mm — so a 300mm wide rail has 250mm between the centre of the left inlet and the centre of the right inlet. Your pipework must emerge from the wall exactly 250mm apart, centre-to-centre.

Is 300mm wide enough for a family bathroom?

300mm is our narrowest rail — best suited to a cloakroom or compact en-suite. For a family bathroom, a 400mm or 500mm wide rail holds more towels and delivers more BTU. If wall space is genuinely tight, choose a taller height (1400mm or 1600mm) in the 300mm width to maximise heat output and bar count within the footprint you have.

Will the anthracite finish rust or corrode in a bathroom?

Not under normal conditions. The rails are mild steel with a triple-layer powder coat. Provided the finish is not chipped and the system water (CH versions) contains corrosion inhibitor, rust should not occur. The 5-year warranty covers manufacturing defects including finish failures. For coastal bathrooms, powder coat is significantly more corrosion-resistant than chrome plate.

Do I need a plumber to install the electric version?

No plumber is needed — the electric version arrives pre-filled and sealed with no water connection required. You do need a qualified electrician to fit the element and make the mains connection, as Part P building regulations cover bathroom electrical work. The element threads into the bottom inlet via a standard ½″ BSP fitting.

Can I add a timer to the electric towel rail later?

Yes. A fused spur wall timer is independent of the element type and can be added or upgraded at any time. Options include a 1–5 hour booster timer, a 7-day digital programmer, or a Wi-Fi smart fused spur. The ER-Wifi thermostatic element has built-in scheduling, so a wall timer becomes optional if you upgrade to that element.

What valves do I need for the central heating version?

A pair of 15mm angled compression valves — one flow, one return. Angled valves suit wall-mounted pipework; straight valves suit floor-mounted pipes. Add a TRV on the flow side for individual room temperature control. Valves are sold separately and can be added to your basket alongside the rail.

What Our Customers Say

Sarah T., Manchester ★★★★★

“Delivered next working day and the anthracite finish is exactly the right shade — not too dark, not too grey. Matched our slate wall tiles perfectly.”

James R., Bristol ★★★★★

“The 250mm pipe centres aligned perfectly with our existing pipework — zero modifications needed. Heats up fast and the powder coat feels very solid.”

Karen L., Edinburgh ★★★★★

“The anthracite colour hides limescale so much better than our old chrome rail. Looks far more expensive than it is — really pleased with the quality.”
