The appropriate temperature setting for radiators is determined by the function of the heating and the room being heated. This is a general guide:
- Living rooms and bedrooms: Aim for around 18-21°C (64-70°F) for a comfortable and cozy environment.
- Hallways and corridors: Slightly cooler temperatures of about 15-18°C (59-64°F) can be sufficient as these are not typically occupied for long periods.
- Bathrooms: A warmer setting of 22-24°C (72-75°F) is ideal for comfort when getting out of the bath or shower.
- Unoccupied or rarely used rooms: You can set the radiator to a lower setting, around 10-15°C (50-59°F) to prevent dampness and freezing but save energy.
To save energy, use thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) to keep individual room temperatures consistent and set your boiler to 75°C (167°F) for hot water.
